Description: John Bauer (1882-1918) was one of the most appreciated Swedish artists of the early twentieth century. His artwork, contemporary to Pamela Smith's, brought to life a world of sweet and dark myth and folklore, where faerie tales blend with pre-Rafaelite suggestions. These wholly unique cards are defined by their unique combination of warmth and whimsy, bringing the tarot reader into contact with a unique experience of spirit.

Notes: None.

rif says: John Bauer is a well-known (at least in his home country) Swedish artist and illustrator. He was privately unsure of himself, and wanted to focus on fine art but needed the money from his commercial art — mainly illustrations for childrens' books. He and his family died in a ship incident that was national news in Sweden. One of Bauer's most recognizable paintings was used in the 80's and 90's for advertising, which triggered debate on the commercial use of Swedish cultural treasures. The artist bio at Wikipedia is educational, and if you aren't familiar with Bauer, worth a read. (And it includes painting samples.)
